biography

Currently based in Italy, Caroline is a free-lance saxophonist and teacher from the United States. Caroline has performed extensively throughout the United States, Italy, Spain, France, Croatia, Cyprus and San Marino; in festivals such as the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi,
Ravenna Festival, Piccolo Spoleto USA, Spinacorona Festival, Lago Maggiore Musica, Festival Novecento and Paesaggi Musicali Toscani; as well as with associations such as New Muse Concerts (USA), the Amici della Musica (Italia), Associazione Musicale Etnea (Sicily), TIMUCUA Arts Foundation (USA) and the Fondazione Gioventù Musicale d’Italia.

Caroline holds first prizes in numerous competitions as a soloist including the University of Georgia’s Concerto Competition, and in chamber music including Italy’s Premio delle Arti, Chamber Music Division. Active in the saxophone community, she has also participated and performed multiple times in the World Saxophone Congress and the North American Saxophone Alliance. She was chosen in 2023 as one of five musicians for the artistic residency Changes with Swedish composer Ellen Arkbro and presented concerts throughout Italy. An avid chamber musician, Caroline gave the European premiere of David Maslanka’s Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Wind Ensemble under the baton of Lorenzo Passerini with the Mestizo Quartet.

Caroline currently teaches saxophone at the Officina della Musica in Ravenna, La Scuola di Musica Malerbi in Lugo, Accademia InArte in Forli and is a member of the organization of the International SaxArts Festival in Italy. Caroline holds degrees from the University of Georgia (2017/ graduated Magna Cum Laude) and the Conservatorio di Musica “F.A. Bonporti” di Trento (2020′ graduated 110/110 lode e menzione), and is the first saxophonist to graduate from the Fondazione Accademia Internazionale di Imola “Incontri col Maestro” (2023′ graduated 110/110 e lode) where she studied Chamber Music. Her primary teachers include Marco Albonetti, Connie Frigo and Marco Zuccarini.

Duo Saxophone & Piano

Caroline enjoys several collaborations with pianists Greg Hankins in the United States and Alexandra Tchernakova and Luigi Moscatello in Italy among others. As a duo of saxophone and piano, she has performed in recent years for New Muse Concerts (USA), Piccolo Spoleto Festival (USA)  Festival di Capo del Leuca in Puglia, SaxArts Festival in Faenza, Remington Concert Series in Charleston, SC as well as in Teatro Rossini in Lugo, Teatro Titano in San Marino, and Teatro Mazzacorati in Bologna to name a few.

The Iberian Treasure

Project for saxophone and choir in collaboration with Gruppo Vocale Viriditas and their director Francesca Paola Geretto

The sound of the saxophone, known for it’s singing quality,
intertwines with the purity of the human voice, creating a
perfect harmony between the instrument, the choir, and the
poem. Music by Dutch composer, Guillermo Lago.

 

The Peacock and the Snake

In the vibrant tapestry of human creativity, two threads have always stood out for their profound ability to evoke emotion and convey complex narratives: visual art and music. In this collaboration between visual art and music with artist Alessandro Roma, sound becomes one with the image in a harmony of senses.


The Peacock and the Snake was first performed in 2022 in Villa
Roberti (Padova) for the rassegna Mutevoli Forme and has since
been performed in the Piccolo Spoleto Festival (USA) in
collaboration with Redux Contemporary Art Center and with
Associazione Fattorini in Faenza, Italy.

Solo Saxophone & Electronics

Liminal Mind is a program for solo saxophone and electronics
exploring the mind in its semi-conscious state throughout life
and the changing relationship between nature and
technology. Composers include Jacob TV, Christopher
Cerrone, Andy Scott.


Bach to Billie: This program for solo saxophone and saxophone and electronics celebrates the versatility and expressive power of
the saxophone, an instrument capable of traversing diverse
musical landscapes from the intricate compositions of Johann
Sebastian Bach to the soulful melodies of Billie Holiday.
Composers include Bach, Marin Marais, Debussy, Jacob TV,
Shelley Washington

Camerata degli Ammutinati

Caroline regularly plays as a saxophonist for the young contemporary music collective, La Camerata degli Ammutinati under the association WunderKammer Orchestra.  

 

La Corelli Orchestra

Caroline has played as a saxophonist for La Corelli Orchestra most recently in the Ravenna Festival and Rossini Open for Stabant Matres, a project in collaboration with Paolo Marzocchi and Guido Barbieri as well as in Brisighella for Dreaming Melodies.

Mestizo Saxophone Quartet

Caroline was a founding member of the award-winning saxophone quartet, Mestizo. Mestizo is originally a word from Spanish, which translates to a person of mixed cultural ancestry – perfectly describing this quartet’s global diversity from Israel, Costa Rica, and the United States.

Mestizo took first prize in Italy’s prestigious competition, il Premio Nazionale delle Arti in Messina, Sicilia and enjoyed an extensive performing career throughout Italy from Sicily to Trentino.  As soloists, Mestizo played the European premiere of David Maslanka’s Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Wind Ensemble under the baton of Maestro Lorenzo Passerini. 

Organi di un Paesaggio Mitico in Divenire

An exploration connecting art, dance, and music with artist Alessandro Roma and dancer Paola Ponti. First performed in Faenza’s Museo Zauli in 2021 for the IV Ceramic Performance Festival.
